Sailing regatta success

Last week, Walhampton held its first school Sailing Regatta at the Royal Lymington Yacht Club. This was for our Year 5/6 children with those who race regularly and have taken part in our U11 regattas paired up with a less experienced crew and encouraged to pass on their skills and knowledge of racing.

We were honoured to have the Royal Yacht Squadron Racing Manager as the Race Officer and, much to the delight of the children, he brought the committee boat over from Cowes.

Once the boats (Fevas) had been rigged and following a short briefing explaining the flags, course and rules, the children headed out into the Solent for three races. With a fresh, south-westerly breeze the conditions were challenging but fun. We saw some excellent sailing and teamwork on the water along with some interesting capsizes which only added to the exhilaration of the day.

Mr Timms joined us out on the water and was very impressed with the team spirit, resilience, and communication skills that the children displayed.

Well done to all the competitors who took part - everyone showed great determination and enthusiasm.

Congratulations to: Walter and Zia for working hard together and winning the regatta!
