The Art department is a vibrant and busy place. With excellent facilities and a positive approach, every child has the opportunity to succeed, becoming fully engaged in their learning and developing artistic and problem-solving abilities in a highly creative and challenging atmosphere.

We are fortunate to have excellent facilities that include two teaching studios, a purpose-built pottery, a textiles area and a large gallery space to exhibit the children’s work as well as showing the work of local artists. The lakes, woodland and landscapes in our beautiful 100-acre grounds – along with the views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight - are regularly used for inspiration.

The department operates an open door policy allowing all children to use the art rooms whenever they are free.

Our aim is to provide all children with the opportunity to improve, succeed and feel confident about their art, whether they are a potential scholar or not. First and foremost, children need to leave Prep school looking forward to their Art lessons at senior school.

Art Assessment

The children play a key role in the assessment of their work and progress. Through a combination of self-assessment, positive encouragement and support, this assessment becomes a key element in the children’s progress and success.
